Sackback Windsor Chairs
The
Sackback Windsor chair is perhaps the most widely recognizable of all the
American Windsor chairs with its wide oval seat, arched bow and arm, and
seven fine spindles. It epitomizes the common elegance of the true
American Windsor chair. This style was developed in the 1770's and is thought
to be named because grain sacks were often placed over the backs to cut
down on drafts.
